—A Conversation with Dr. Zhang Junxi, Vice President of the Zigong Campus of Huanya Hospital (Zigong High-Tech Oncology Hospital)
Two Decades Dedicated to Minimally Invasive Interventional Oncology, Continuing the Life Stories of Cancer Patients with Millimeter-Level Precision
At the clinical forefront of minimally invasive interventional oncology, there is a physician who uses slender puncture needles and catheters as his instruments. Under the precise guidance of CT and DSA, he reaches directly into the core of lesions, delivering ablation energy and chemotherapy drugs accurately to tumor areas. Rooted in frontline clinical practice for nearly twenty years, he has performed thousands of interventional procedures, bringing the concepts and techniques of China’s leading interventional centers to clinical practice and rekindling hope for countless patients with advanced tumors facing desperate situations. He is Dr. Zhang Junxi, Vice President of the Zigong Campus of Huanya Hospital (Zigong High-Tech Oncology Hospital), Director of Ward I, Associate Chief Physician, and member of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO).
Dr. Zhang Junxi pursued advanced training in the Department of Interventional Medicine at West China Hospital of Sichuan University and at Henan Provincial People’s Hospital, absorbing the advanced concepts and technical essence of China’s top interventional centers in intravascular and non-vascular tumor intervention. Since then, he has focused on minimally invasive interventional oncology for twenty years, providing individualized comprehensive treatment for tumor patients from around the world with superb technical skill and compassion.
In the field of minimally invasive intervention, Dr. Zhang Junxi is proficient in the full range of tumor ablation techniques, including chemical ablation, radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, argon-helium cryoablation, and NanoKnife ablation. He is especially skilled in intravascular and non-vascular interventional treatment for solid tumors such as liver cancer, lung cancer, and pancreatic cancer. In the field of respiratory intervention, he is skilled in EBUS-TBNA puncture technology, providing an important basis for the accurate diagnosis and staging of lung cancer. He advocates the comprehensive oncology treatment concept of“equal emphasis on local and systemic therapy”and is adept at integrating chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, and other modalities to tailor individualized treatment plans for each patient.
In 2023, he was elected as a member of the First Committee of the Palliative Care Professional Committee of the Sichuan Medical Doctor Association. Since then, he has paid greater attention to symptom control and quality of life for patients with end-stage tumors, and has been committed to integrating the concept of palliative care into every stage of comprehensive oncology management. From curative ablation for solid tumors to palliative symptom relief for advanced-stage patients, from precise image-guided puncture to individualized comprehensive treatment decisions, Dr. Zhang Junxi has interpreted the responsibility and commitment of an interventional oncologist through nearly twenty years of dedication.
