WKnife NanoKnife Ablation in China | Local-Anesthesia, Single-Needle IRE

What Is WKnife?

Single-needle ablation under local anesthesia opens a new era of minimally invasive tumor treatment

WKnife is the world’s first steep-pulse treatment system capable of treatment under local anesthesia using a single local-anesthesia needle and bipolar catheter. It is also the first NanoKnife system to achieve “single-needle ablation + local-anesthesia operation” while covering both liver and pancreatic indications. These international breakthroughs establish a new benchmark in tumor ablation and mark the beginning of the local-anesthesia era for NanoKnife tumor ablation.

The cosmetic-style treatment offered by WKnife is a new standard in tumor care

The procedure may take several hours Treatment time shortened to 15 minutes
Hospital stay of 1–2 weeks or longer Discharge in as little as 3 days
Long recovery and greater physical burden Fast recovery with little impact on daily life
Requires strong cardiopulmonary function and may not be tolerated by some patients Suitable for older patients and those with impaired cardiopulmonary function

Which Tumor Types Are Suitable for WKnife Ablation?

Liver Tumors

Primary and metastatic liver cancer, especially lesions in high-risk locations and cases unsuitable for surgery

Pancreatic Tumors

For pancreatic cancer, known as the “king of cancers,” WKnife can reach areas considered unsuitable for surgery

Prostate Tumors

For prostate cancer and recurrent disease, WKnife precisely ablates tumors while protecting the urethra and erectile nerves.

Lung Tumors

Early-stage lung cancer and lung metastases in patients unable to tolerate surgery or general anesthesia

Breast Tumors

“Cosmetic” precision tumor inactivation that improves cosmetic satisfaction and quality of life

Kidney Tumors

Renal masses and metastatic kidney tumors in patients who prioritize preserving kidney function

Soft-Tissue Tumors

Retroperitoneal and extremity soft-tissue metastases

Professor Liao Zhengyin at UNI-ASIA Hospital

Liao Zhengyin Professor・PhD

Leading Figure in MDT for Complex Tumors in China
Former Director and First-Class Expert of the Cancer Center at West China Hospital
“Founder of the West China MDT team for complex tumors, specializing in difficult tumors that others hesitate or struggle to treat”

Milestone: Professor Liao Zhengyin completed the first WKnife ablation for high-risk liver cancer in western China

UNI-ASIA Hospital team performing WKnife ablation for high-risk liver cancer
The patient had Child-Pugh class C liver function and a high-risk lesion in the caudate lobe—a forbidden zone that conventional surgery and standard ablation could hardly reach. With exceptional puncture skills and millimeter-level energy control, Professor Liao Zhengyin and his team successfully performed western China’s first WKnife ablation for a high-risk lesion, opening a new era of minimally invasive, single-needle, scarless ablation for highly complex tumors.
