- Honoring Teachers, Carrying Forward the Medical Legacy | A Heartwarming Visit of Interventional Radiology Pioneer Professor Zhang Jinshan to Chengdu Uni-Asia Cancer Hospital
On May 31, 2026, Chengdu Uni-Asia Cancer Hospital welcomed a distinguished guest—Professor Zhang Jinshan, one of the pioneers of interventional radiology in China and former professor at the PLA General Hospital (301 Hospital). Accompanied by his wife, Professor Zhang visited our hospital for academic guidance and meaningful exchanges.
Throughout the day, we witnessed the heartfelt reunion between mentor and student, as well as the warmth of compassionate bedside care. Respecting teachers and practicing medicine with sincerity—these values found their most vivid expression on this memorable day.
01 Welcome · A Reunion Between Mentor and Student
Upon learning of Professor Zhang Jinshan's visit, the hospital leadership and department heads gathered early to welcome him.
Our Distinguished Expert, Professor Liao Zhengyin, had just completed a highly complex interventional procedure. Upon hearing that his mentor had arrived, he immediately rushed over despite his exhaustion.
The moment mentor and student met—
Professor Liao embraced Professor Zhang tightly, unable to hide his joy. Professor Zhang gently patted his student's shoulder with a warm and proud smile, kindly asking about his recent work and offering heartfelt guidance.

The medical staff nearby were deeply touched. There were no formal ceremonies—just a respectful bow and a heartfelt embrace. This is the purest expression of honoring one's teacher in the medical profession.
02 Guidance · Warmth at the Patient's Bedside
Accompanied by the hospital leadership, Professor Zhang toured the inpatient wards, learning in detail about the hospital's interventional radiology program, medical equipment, and specialized clinical services while providing valuable professional guidance.
Yet the most touching moment took place inside a patient room.
Professor Zhang walked to a patient's bedside and patiently listened to the patient's concerns. Using simple and reassuring language, he explained the condition and gently said:
"Medical technology has advanced greatly. Have confidence, cooperate with your treatment, and your life will continue to improve."
His comforting words brought warmth like a spring breeze. Deeply moved, the patient repeatedly expressed gratitude, filling the ward with warmth and hope.
Pursuing excellence in medical technology while never losing compassion—this perfectly reflects Chengdu Uni-Asia Cancer Hospital's patient-centered philosophy.
03 Passing on the Legacy · Words for the Younger Generation
Professor Zhang also met with young physicians.
He shared unforgettable stories from his decades-long medical career, his studies in Japan, and his pioneering work in establishing interventional radiology in China. He encouraged the younger generation by saying:
"Build a solid foundation and have the courage to take responsibility. Every advancement in medicine comes from respect for patients and unwavering dedication to medical innovation."

Professor Zhang Jinshan's visit brought not only the profound wisdom of a distinguished medical master but also highlighted the culture of respect for teachers embraced by the leadership and medical experts of Chengdu Uni-Asia Cancer Hospital, as well as their genuine compassion for patients.
